Tallahassee R/C hosted their first sponsored event this past weekend at Capital City Raceway. Premium sponsors Reds Racing USA and Venom helped draw in racers from as far away as Canada. The event kicked off with a full day of practice on Friday. Most of the field showed up eager to explore the unfamiliar territory. The track was hit with intense weather earlier in the week and drastic preparations leading up to the race guaranteed amazing traction. After practice kicked off around noon the damp track quickly started to take shape. Others quickly jumped in, leading to one of the most amazing grooves the track has ever seen. Racers were greeted with beautiful weather Saturday, and qualifiers kicked off after the final late entries were set. 173 racers gathered around the massive drivers stand for the drivers meeting then three rounds of 6 minute qualifiers started sorting out the field.
Sunday’s weather was just as pleasant. The morning kicked off with a drawing for a new Team C T8T Pro Nitro Kit courtesy of gold level sponsors Team C Racing. The groove in the track was now near black and talk among the crowd confirmed that the lane provided some of the most intense racing yet at this facility.
The Pro Truggy Nitro main was 30 minutes of lead swapping action. Reds Racing Factory Driver Eddy Cordoba battled it out with Associated Ace Blake Boggs. Eddy secured a lead into the final laps of the race when lap traffic ended his hopes of what seemed to be an already locked-up win. Mugen Seiki driver John McGinty took full advantage of the situation as well as Boggs. At the end Cordoba stood on the podium 3rd with Boggs 2nd and McGinty 1st.
The Pro Buggy class was a battle for Boggs while Mugen Seiki driver Collin Hanna held onto the lead the entire 30 minute A-main. Boggs started in the 8th spot, hit some lap traffic on the first lap and worked his way from 11th to 2nd through a massive field of the Southeast’s fastest racers. The mains on Sunday ran very smoothly and awards started hitting the crowd by 5pm. Transmitters, tyres, engine combos, and hauler bags were just a fraction of the awesome prizes given away at this event. ”TallahasseeRC is forever thankful for all those who attended this event. Our deepest thanks go out to our racers and sponsors for making this event a great success.”
