Kevin Tong from Sabah, Malaysia, put on a dominating performance to pilot his Precirotate (PR) powered Team C Racing T8 to the top of the podium in the second leg of the Borneo 1/8 Radio Controlled Off-road League 2013 (BOL) on Sunday (March 24) in Brunei. It was the second podium finish for Tong in as many races, the Sabahan claiming third in the first leg held in Limbang, Malaysia in January. Tong showed that he was a force to be reckoned with during the qualifying sessions to walk away as the Top Qualifier.
He continued his impressive form during the one-hour A-final on Sunday, finishing the race with a total of 96 laps. “I just drove a safe race… to avoid mistakes. That’s what I always do on an away track,” said Tong. Local driver Brian Lim, driving an Alpha powered Serpent Cobra 2.0, put on an impressive drive to finish second, two laps behind the eventual winner.
Lim in turn was two laps faster than third placed Morgan Ting from Bintulu, Malaysia. Ting, who was also driving a PR powered Team C T8, looked set to challenge Lim for second place but an issue with his steering servo saw him relinquish the battle.
“I had to interrupt my race to change my battery when I realised there was something wrong with the (steering) servo,” said Ting. The Team C T8s reigned in the A-final, taking up seven of the 12 spots on offer. Three Serpent Cobra 2.0s and two Mugen MBX6s completed the line-up. A truggy class was also held with Brunei based Didier Jarillot of France claiming top honours with his Alpha powered Team C T8T. The race was held at Brunei’s new Jalan Menteri Besar Recreational Park RC track Five legs, held across Borneo, are planned for the inaugural edition of the BOL. The third leg will see the league return to Limbang in May.
