The 2013 season of the Nitro-West-Masters will kick-off at Oberhausen at the upcoming weekend (11/12 May). It is the fifth season of this nitro on-road series in Western Germany, which has become more popular year by year since it was launched in 2009. Last year a total of 106 racers have collected championship points. For the first time there will be six race meetings in 2013, one per month from May to October.
The 2013 calendar of the Nitro-West-Masters (NWM):
1. 11/12 May – Oberhausen
2. 15/16 June – Dueren
3. 13/14 July – Bad Breisig
4. 03/04 August – Haltern
5. 28/29 September – Velp/NL
6. 12/13 October – Dormagen
New in the NWM 2013 is that no license of the DMC, the German RC car association, is necessary any more. New is also that following the success of the HC8 class (1/8 scale with 5-port standard engines) with 30 entries in 2012, a new class HC10 (1/10 scale with standard engines) is introduced. In total there are four classes: 1/8 scale (VG8), 1/10 scale (VG10) as well as both basic classes HC8 and HC10 with standard engines from Novarossi, Sonic and Xceed. Tyres are free but additives are strictly forbidden. The racing format is the same as in previous years with three heats over seven minutes with the three best consecutive laps to count and with four direct qualifyers for the finals.
As reigning champions Thilo Toedtmann, Benny Lehmann and Philipp Roemer will enter the new season. Toedtmann, now with Shepherd instead of Mugen, has won the last year´s title in the VG8 class (28 participants) ahead of Western German Champion Uwe Baldes (Mugen) and Ralf Vahrenkamp (Serpent). The VG10 class was the most popular in 2012 with a total of 48 competitors. With three race wins Benny Lehmann (Serpent) dominated the touring car class, catching the title in front of Andy Weyhoven (Xray) and Arndt Bernhardt (Serpent). The title chase in the HC8 class, which attracted 30 racers, was a close decision between newcomer Philipp Roemer (Xray) and Matthias Guenther (Mugen) with the better end for the 16 years old Roemer. Christian Roenicke (Mugen), another young up-and-coming talent, was finally ranked third.
NWM race meetings – practise on Saturday, heats and finals only on Sunday – are well known for fair racing as well as a familiar and friendly atmosphere. Nevertheless, on the track the nitro racers are fighting for lots of points and trophys. The price giving ceremony at the traditional Nitro-West-Brunch is an inherent part of the NWM season.
